Our main program, Fundango, is a respite program for all children (ages 0 to 18 years of age) of foster, adoptive, and kinship parents in Northern Colorado. Screened and trained staff and volunteers lead groups of children through our six stations after being served dinner. Those stations include crafts, snack, games, hands-on-fun, gym, special rotation, and “move it.” In order to reserve their spot at Fundango, we ask parents to pay $5 a child, no more than $15 a family. On average, we serve 70-80 kids from 25-30 families at each event. This past year, we served 225 children ages 2 weeks to 18 years from 75 families. While we are playing, parents have an opportunity to take a break from parenting. They are refreshed and energized when they pick up their children. Fundango not only provides 3-6 hours of center-based respite each month, it gives families a temporary relief from everyday tasks in order to help reduce stress, to support family stability, prevent abuse and neglect, and minimize the need for out-of-home placement.

What is Fundango?
Fundango is a respite program for all children of foster and adoptive parents in northern Colorado. Screened and trained volunteers lead groups through stations like crafts, snack and games. We also provide a dinner. While we are playing, parents have an opportunity to take a break from parenting.
When and where are Fundango events held?
During the summer we have one event a month — better known as the SUPER FUNDANGO. We have two events per month from September through May; one of the events is held in Fort Collins at the Boys and Girls Club, and the other in Loveland at the Boys and Girls Club. Our current Fundango events are listed above, on this hpage. Our Loveland Fundango is held at the Boys and Girls Club in Loveland at 2500 East 1st Street. Our Fort Collins Fundango is held at the Boys and Girls Club in Fort Collins at 1608 Lancer Drive.
What time do events start and what time do they end?
Fundango starts at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. We ask that you try to arrive as close to 5:00 p.m. as possible. That way we can make sure we are on schedule for the evening. The same goes for pick up time.
What is the cost to participate?
The cost is $5 a child with a maximum of $15 a family. We do have scholarships available. Please email us for information on scholarships.
Who can participate at Fundango?
All children in your home may attend. We take ages from 0 to 17 years old, and at least one child in the home must be classified as a foster, adoptive or kinship child. Don’t forget that biological children can come as well!
Do you provide dinner?
Yes! We offer all Fundango kids, staff, and volunteers dinner and snack at each Fundango event. Dinner varies from event to event. Please let us know if your child has any allergies. You are more than welcome to bring in food of your own choosing for your children.
Do you train and perform background checks on your volunteers?
Yes! It is important to us that your children have a fun and safe time while they are with us at Fundango. Therefore, we run a thorough background check on all staff and volunteers who work with our children. We repeat that background check every two years. Also all of our staff are trained in infant, child and adult CPR as well as first aid. Additionally, we have a mandatory training that all new volunteers must complete prior to their first time volunteering.
If my child gets hurt, how will I be notified?
If your child gets hurt, and the incident is not an emergency, we will treat the child if necessary and write an incident report with details of what happened. The report will be waiting for you when you come to pick up your child. You will need to sign it. If you need a copy please let the Coordinator know and s/he will email you a copy Monday following Fundango. If the incident is an emergency, we will contact you immediately.
Is there a nursery group and what do they do?
Yes! We offer a nursery group for children ages 0 – 3. Depending on the ages of the children, we have two or three paid nursery staff who are with our nursery kids all the time. Children who are two and older will visit some of the rotations planned for the night. All nursery children eat dinner, snack, and have an assortment of toys available to play with. The activities vary per event, but you can expect your child to color, play, dance, etc.
How old does my child need to be to participate as a Fundango Teen Helper?
Once your child turns 13, they can volunteer as a Fundango Teen Helper. We have 3 Fundango Teen Helper positions available per night: snack rotation helper, gym rotation helper, and craft rotation helper. We only have three spots available so sign up early. Also, we will need parents/guardians to sign this waiver for their children to participate. You can download the permission slip here.
